ITALY: INDUTRIAL OUTPUT UNEXPECTEDLY FALLS IN JANUARY
(ANSAmed) – ROME, MARCH 10 – Industrial output in Italy fell unexpectedly in January over the previous month but remained higher than January of last year, national statistics bureau Istat reported on Thursday.
Seasonally adjusted data showed that output fell by 1.5% from December to January, compared to a predicted rise of between 0.5% and 0.7%, but rose 0.6% when adjusted for the number of working days. Compared to January of last year industrial output rose 3.8% before adjustments.
Year-on-year automobile production in January jumped 7.9% when adjusted to seasonal factors and working days.
The most significant year-on-year jumps in output were for machines and machine tools (+13.9%), refined petroleum products (+11%) and metal products in general (+9.9%). The biggest drop in output was for computers, optics, electronic devices and watches (-11.1%). (ANSAmed).
